Feedback assessment (of my first 10k)

Feedback assessment (of my first 10k)

Having succumbed to the latest strain of the common cold, courtesy of my youngest child, I took a couple of days off editing as my brain ceased to function well enough to read and edit. Instead, I took some time to read through the feedback I got from the Ink and Insights writing contest, collated the information into one document and then wrote myself a little ‘to-do’ list. ‘Little’ as in it’s an A4 sheet of paper long! As mentioned, I’m quite nervous about sharing my writing, but am strangely okay with it being pulled to pieces. Having it graded in the ‘real’ world, as opposed […]

So I entered a writing contest…

So I entered a writing contest…

I rarely talk about my writing, mainly because I’m usually too busy editing to do any, but way, way back in June, I made a decision to enter Ink and Insights writing contest. The requirements for the contest was for writers to submit the first 10k of their novels, and as it so happened, I had written 15k for the April CampNano (and done not very much with it since then). It’s a novel I first wrote back in 2009 (for Nanowrimo) and have since changed and rewritten. It’s been into screenplay format and back again, only for me to then lose every word of […]

Nanowrimo 2015 has arrived

Nanowrimo 2015 has arrived

So… Nanowrimo has arrived, and as per usual, it has taken me a couple of days to get into it. Not helped by the fact I was down London for a friend’s 40th birthday party and didn’t get home until the 2nd, but hey-ho, I’m on the case now. Having lost the majority of my writing in a cloud storage disaster, I am going to be a Nano-rebel this year. Over the past few months, I’ve been doing a little rewriting and had a word count of about 20k before the 1st November arrived (obviously I’m only counting new writing towards my Nanowrimo counts). The plan therefore, is to complete the rewrite of my first […]

The first post is always the worst post

The first post is always the worst post

In November 2009 I discovered Nanowrimo – a worldwide writing challenge with one goal – write a complete novel with a minimum of 50,000 words, and so I did. I signed up, I wrote solidly for thirty days, and I completed my novel. I even did a little editing before tucking it inside my hard drive, and then I forgot about it – on purpose. It was awful. Not the story. The story was fine, it was the writing. It was all over the place – still is. I’ve rewritten it twice since then, and with each ‘draft’ more of a story emerged. Fast forward to 2015 and I now face the prospect of editing […]
